Streaky Bay councillors voted at their ordinary meeting on Thursday to support the Perlubie Landing Estate plan with the proviso that mains electricity be supplied to the town.
The Perlubie Landing Estate Development Plan Amendment including the Summary of Consultations and Proposed Amendments will mean no further expansion in area but still some further land divisions.
A decision on formalising the Perlubie camping site was put off for another month.
The main issues raised in submissions into the plan were about supply of electricity, wastewater management and mains water supply.
At the August council meeting George Manos from Botten Levinson Lawyers made a presentation on behalf of the developers of Perlubie Landing Estate and said there would be no further land divisions created at Perlubie Landing Estate; the existing dead-end roads can be permanently closed; mains water is not available; and the developer is not willing to pursue the supply of electricity due to the expected high cost ($2 million).
Three roads at the estate will be formally made into no through roads.
At the same meeting, it was decided it would be recommended to the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure to name the road from Yantanabie to Kingoonya as Wirrulla-Kingoonya Road, with second preference being Gawler Ranges Road and thirdly Station Road (its current name).
The preferred name for the Streaky Bay to Poochera road is Streaky Bay Highway and the continuations of Bay Road and Alfred Terrace towards the Flinders Highway will likely be known by those names.
Council also voted to support New Year’s Eve fireworks organised by Dr Robert Oswald and Trevor Gilmore through in-kind support as in other years.
